Is skateboarding safe?

What we do in our camps is more related to balance training, much like a gymnast would go through in beginning stages of learning. The USSEA LTS program is based on incremental progress; we allow our students to master specific isolated skills that set them up for success in the next step. We require helmets and wrist guards to guard against injury, we do not allow students to attempt new challenges until they are ready, and we watch closely for proper form, so that kids stay stable while they are learning. We do understand that, as with anything in life, there are risks; Our safeguards are in place so that students can learn in the safest and most supportive environment possible.

Why skateboarding?

Skateboarding is really fun, it’s a great way for kids to get outside having fun with friends. It also teaches persistence, discipline, coordination and focus. Inevitably most children(and adults) have a hard moment when they are learning something new, they feel like they will never get it, and they get discouraged. This is actually a great moment in the learning process, because they get to persist in the face of fear, they learn to have faith in themselves and keep at it. When they get that first push by themselves and glide down the street, it’s an incredible feeling of freedom and such a huge boost in confidence for them. Skateboarding has changed many lives, and by making it more accessible, safe and family friendly, we hope to change many more.

Why electronic music?

We believe everyone should have music in their lives, there are so many options out there for instruments to learn, and yet even though there are new advances in music technology coming out every year, very few programs exist to support learning these new instruments. We see these instruments not as a replacement for acoustic instruments, but a welcome companion. It is our hope that they can provide an introduction to a different perspective on music, and that our students will go on to explore many other forms and instruments. Everyone has different ways of learning, and we believe the novelty of these instruments will appeal to certain kids that might not be interested in music otherwise. Our ultimate goal is to spark joy and passion for music, so that our students will have a lifelong relationship with the artform.
